Mushroom poisoning can cause severe illness, organ damage, or death. Many edible species have toxic or deadly lookalikes, and visual differences can be subtle even for experienced foragers. Do not rely on this app for safety-critical decisions.

2. Match percentages are similarity scores, not probabilities

Percentage values in the app indicate how closely your image resembles examples seen during model training. They are not probabilities, not a confidence guarantee, and not proof of species identity.

A high score can still be wrong. A lower score can still include the correct species. Scores vary with lighting, angle, focus, background, mushroom age, weathering, and image quality.

3. Why AI results can fail

• Lookalike species may share very similar visual patterns.
• Species can appear different across growth stages, regions, and environmental conditions.
• Partial, blurry, or overexposed photos can hide key identification traits.
• Some species or regional variants may be underrepresented in training data.

4. Toxicity labels are limited

Some results may include toxicity indicators. These indicators are for general awareness only. If a result is not labeled toxic, that does not mean it is edible or safe.

5. Safe identification workflow

Before any consumption decision, always use multiple checks:

• Consult trusted regional field guides and expert keys.
• Verify key traits beyond photos (gills/pores, stem, ring, volva, bruising, smell, spore print, habitat, season).
• Cross-check with experienced local mycologists or mushroom identification groups.
• If uncertainty remains, do not consume the mushroom.

6. If exposure or poisoning is suspected

Treat this as urgent. Contact your local poison center or emergency services immediately and follow medical guidance. Do not wait for app confirmation.
